Chef Paul Smith is the Capitol Market’s first-ever “Culinary Ambassador.” This honorary title reflects Smith’s role in helping to lead the culinary direction for Charleston’s premier location for fresh local produce, meat and other food products in West Virginia.

Smith, a James Beard Award finalist, has hosted his “Let’s Get Cooking” culinary demonstration at Capitol Market for several years. These demonstrations, sponsored by AARP, are held on the third Thursday of each month at the outside market from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m during the summer months.

In addition to the demonstrations, Smith caters many events, such as farm-to-table dinners and fundraisers. He also sits on the Capitol Market Board of Directors.

Smith has his hand in multiple restaurants in Charleston, including 1010 Bridge, The Pitch Sports Bar & Grill, Ellen’s Ice Cream and Barkadas, in addition to working with The Humble Tomato in Lewisburg and Blue Smoke Salsa in Ansted.

“We are thankful for Chef Paul’s partnership throughout the years and look forward to working with him on exciting new projects moving forward,” said Steven Keith, president of the Capitol Market’s Board of Directors.
