Ingredients:
(makes 6–8 servings)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- handful of fresh basil, torn
- 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot)
- 1 lb beef or meat of choice
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
- red pepper flakes (optional)
- splash of red wine or water
- pasta for serving
Instructions:
- In a large pot, sear sausage and beef in olive oil until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, sauté onion until soft. Add garlic and tomato paste; cook 2–3 min.
- Add crushed tomatoes, salt, sugar, oregano, basil, and a splash of red wine or water. Stir well.
- Return browned meats to the pot. Simmer uncovered on low for 3–4 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Remove meats, shred or serve whole. Toss pasta with the rich sauce and top with your slow-cooked meat.
